Game 12 Strand United

Firstly, apologies that there was no report from The Stellenbosch Coronations game. The Pumas went on the road and all the teams recorded a win. Done...........

This report is about Saturday the 15th of August when the Pumas welcomed Strand United to their ground. It was a cold miserable day but that did not stop players from both clubs as they honoured the fixture by fighting it out for league points.

First up the under 20’s took to the field and looked to continue their success story. The teams traded blows as the game went back and forth. Masi took the lead but the youngsters from Strand fought back and eventually the game ended with Masi on the charge but failing to capitalise. The final score was a 10-10 draw.

The 3rds have looked fresh and rejuvenated lately and it looked like they would continue their winning streak as they rushed to an early first half lead. The wheels came off a bit in the second half as Strand clawed their way back to salvage a 12-12 draw.

Two games, two draws. Sign of things to come? It wasn’t as the seconds put up a scrappy yet dominant display to come away with a 27-15 win. Well done to the seconds who were missing quite a number of regulars.

The firsts knew they needed a win, preferably with a bonus point. In the howling wind, Masi had 1st half advantage with the wind on their backs. At times the wind was underestimated as some kicks out of hand went the full length of the field. Masi spent significant time in the Strand half of the field. They failed to cross the line and only got two penalties against the one of Strand.
The second half meant the majority of the game would be in the Masi half. Masi defended well without the ball and slowed up by kicking for the line when they had penalties. Good captaincy by Jack. In the end Masi scored a converted try to take the lead 13-3. A score line that would stay till the end.
A good win, but one that comes at a cost as Masi lost both Keenan and Lionel to injuries. Masi will take the points though.

Great stuff Pumas. Next week we welcome Young Stars who have had an impressive season.

Let’s go Pumas.
